Who was Maria Montessori?

In 1870… • Her parents encouraged her to become a teacher as it was the only profession available to women at that time.

She was, however, interested in engineering and then later in Biology. This led her to the study of medicine.

Observe a classroom and read her work and you will see: Her deep understanding of human development and the human brain (study of medicine), and Her engineering mind at work in all of the lovely materials she created to help children lean.
